Visconde de taunay inocencia: Retrata a realidade regional
O viajante III. O doutor IV. A casa do mineiro V. Aviso previo VI. Innocencia VII. O naturalista VIH. Os hospedes da meia-noite IX. O medicamento X. Realidade XV. Historias de Meyer XVI. O empalamado XVII. Idyllio XIX. Novas historias de Meyer XXI. A ultima entrevista XXIV. A viagem XXVI. Reapparece Meyer. Don't judge a book by its cover, or its first chapter; the first few pages of Inocencia didn't catch my interest at all, it was difficult to go on and took all my willpower to keep reading.
However, from the second chapter the novel becomes extremely interesting, so read on! I hear a lot of people criticizing the machista views of the book, but what most people don't seem to realize is that the characters in the novel challenge the gender norms of the times. Inocencia stands up to her father, and Cirino would rather die than let his beloved marry another just so her father won't have to go back on his word.
They both risk their lives in a subtle -and unsuccessful- attempt to write their own fates.
Visconde de taunay inocencia: Semeai promessas: a ninguém
My favorite thing about this book is that it is set in Mato Grosso, a region that gets little to no representation in Brazilian culture. It was a nice surprise to find a literature novel set in my home state, and read a story set in the place I grew up in and know so well. While it is a Romanticism novel, Visconde de Taunay didn't use much of the extremely descriptive imagery and redundant metaphors that are typical of the genre, and Inocencia borders on Realism, and even on Naturalism, making the novel a fast read that I, a very slow reader, finished in one day.
Sara Jesus. E sim um amor casto e puro. Suellen Mima. Oi, gente! Triste isso. Hospitaleiro, ofereceu a Cirino comida farta e pouso.
